Staff sets third annual Town Expo for Saturday, May 12

Town ‘open house’ includes touch a truck

LITTLE ELM (April 30, 2018) What the annual open house is to the Fire Department, the Town Expo is to the rest of the Town’s operations, this year set for Saturday, May 12.

“When the Fire Department holds its open house every year, they invite residents to come and get a good look at how the firefighters go about their daily chores,” says Skye Thibodeaux, Town Planner.  “The Town Expo is exactly the same thing, but instead of meeting at the Fire Station, we basically bring all of the Town’s departments under one roof and open the doors.”

Set for its third annual run, Little Elm’s Town Expo and Touch a Truck event will be held at the Little Elm Recreation Center, 303 Main St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Each Town department will provide an overview of what they provide, and staff members will be on hand to interact with residents.

In addition to the open forum where people can speak to representatives from every Town department and ask questions regarding Town services, the Expo will include exhibits, demonstrations and the ever-popular Touch a Truck portion, where residents can climb into and become familiar with Town vehicles and equipment.

The trucks will be fully-manned by Town personnel who will ensure safety and provide insights into the equipment’s capabilities.

The event is free and open to the public.  Food trucks are scheduled to be part of the event, offering food and drinks for sale.  Representatives of the Public Safety Honor Park will be on hand to answer questions and encourage attendees to help support the park by donating or purchasing a commemorative brick.

“We’ve drawn some very good crowds in the past couple of years, so we’re expecting a good turnout this year as well,” said Thibodeaux.  “People have told us they appreciate the effort we’re making to share what we do and how we do it.  The Expo has opened some eyes in the community to things they may not have known about how the Town works.”

Along with the Town’s vehicles and equipment, CoServ and CWD will have some of their equipment on display.
