Library moves to easier, larger e-book system

Library converting to easier, robust e-books program

New system allows access to 30,000 titles

LITTLE ELM (May 15, 2017) While we might be quick to assume that the teen wearing headsets is listening to their favorite music, he or she might actually be listening to latest Harry Potter book, imagining a world of wizardry and magic.

Over the next few weeks, the Little Elm Public Library will not only make it much easier for teens and adults to either read books electronically or listen to their favorite audiobooks, but the choices for these materials will be increased exponentially.

“In our continuing efforts to provide the most useful and convenient resources to our patrons, we are migrating to a digital platform that will simplify the downloading procedures, and at the same time expand readers’ choices significantly,” says Library Manager Lynette Roberson.

Library patrons who prefer to read or listen to books on their mobile devices will find it as simple as checking the weather, as book downloads will be handled through a program called cloudLibrary.

The new system allows patrons to use Apple devices, including iPhones and iPads; Android-enabled notebooks and phones; PCs and Macs, which will allow for transfer to Nooks or Kobos; Kindle Fires; and Chromebooks.  Also, the program can be conveniently accessed through the library app or a website, allowing readers full downloading capability from anywhere an internet signal is available.

“We’re moving to cloudLibrary for all the right reasons,” added Roberson.  “Ease of access is important, of course, but the fact that 11 other North Texas libraries are connected to the same program gives our patrons the ability to access over 30,000 e-books and e-audio titles.  That’s something we could not have offered otherwise.”

The changeover from the current OneClick Digital system to the new cloudLibrary will be complete by June 16.  That means that any holds on the One Click Digital system will end today, and check outs on that system will end on June 1.  Users of the outgoing system will, of course, be able to transfer their accounts to the new system for continued full use.

“While the system will go dark for two weeks between June 1 and 16, the benefits of the new program will far outweigh the temporary inconvenience,” she added.

Like all other library resources, cloudLibrary is free with a Little Elm Public Library Card. For more information on how to access cloudLibrary, please contact the library at 214-975-0430 or visit library@littleelm.org.
